SIM card

  • What is the purpose of the SIM card, and how do you configure it?

There is nothing about the SIM card slot in the manual.  I know I have to configure the Access Point Name.  However, I have no idea how to do so with this radio.  Hopefully, someone can steer me in the right direction

  • I'm sorry, I forgot to put the radio I have:  Roadanvi X12 4G+64G

  • The SIM card will allow your HU to have access to data/internet without having to use your phone as a hotspot.  Depending upon the carrier you can potentially let your HU be the wifi hotspot and everyone in the vehicle can connect to your HU as though it was a wifi router.

  • @Jonathon Britt Are there instructions on how to configure it?

  • @Walter Thomason Unfortunately no.  In fact I have found little to no information about how to even locate the IMEI number in any menu on any android HU. But that is an issue I intent to ask the support staff about.  I did get mine to work through trial and error.  Most all of the major carriers, AT&T, Verizon, Spectrum, require an IMEI number to validate your device and its compatiblity with their network.  So I have been unable to use these carriers. T-Mobile however does not.  They only require you to set the APN.  The sim card purchased through Amazon is from KiwiSIM.  Here is the link  This is a data only card.  No SMS or Talk.  Simply data only.  You will need a wifi connection during the initial setup.  Let me know if this works for you.

  • @Jonathon Britt So far, I'm on the right track.  I bought KiwiSim on Amazon.  I'm used to dealing with IMEI, never dealing with  APN.  I have a wifi connection, but I don't understand how to set up the APN.  I did learn I have to turn off my phone because when it connects to the HU, the wifi goes offline.  If you will forgive me for trying to benefit from your hard labor, what did you do to get the KiwiSim to work?

  • @Walter Thomason sorry it has taken so long to post a reply.  I don't rememer the exact path that I navigated to get there.  I kinda stumbled upon it by accident.  I will say (but don't hold me to it lol) if my memory serves me correctly, it wasn't under any "settings" menu that required a code to access it. I have to run some errands this morning and will undoubtedly have some down time inbetween so I will try and retrace my steps and take some screenshots of where I was able to set the APN.   I should have that info up here by noon today.

I managed to retrace my steps.  Open Settings, then select "Network & Internet" at the top. On the next screen select "Mobile Network" then select "Advanced" at the bottom, on the next screen you will need to scroll the very bottom and select Access Point Names.  You should see three choices on the next screen and when selected each of them has a sub menu listing the NAME  APN and I forget what else.  I went through one at a time and changed the APN of all three and restarted the HU.  I seem to remember as I set the APN of each, when I hit enter it looked as though it didn't accept the APN I had just typed in, which is the reason I did all three lol.  But when I restarted the HU, there it was in all its glory, an active and working 4G data sim card.  I hope this helps if you haven't figured it out already.

  • Got it!  Thanks a million!

  • @Walter Thomason AWESOME!  Glad its working.

  • @Roadanvi Support I have trouble accessing "Mobile Network" under Network & Internet."  I can see it in the listing, but it is grayed out.  I have the SIM card reader connected with a SIM card loaded.  I've tried everything I can to get this menu to come alive.

While I am here, there are a few strange things that are happening:

    1.  When the phone connects to the radio, the Wi-Fi turns off.

    2.  This just started; My phone now connects to the Radio's Hotspot.  I never turned on the Hotspot.  I've manually turned the Hotspot off, but it turns back on autonomously and forces the phone off of my network.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Hello customer,

Please Go to Settings > Network&Internet > SIM cards > Mobile data > change to the current SIM card.

As to the phone connect to the radio issue, please let us know if you are using zlink(CarPlay&Android auto).

The head unit could not be connected to hotspot when you’re using wireless CarPlay, cuz the WiFi access has been occupied by the CarPlay.
